Land Acquisition Act, 1977

Land acquisition Act is the main legislation to guide the land acquisition process in the country. 

Article 4 of the Act empowers government to acquire land upon request by institutions subject to thepayment of compensation and all other expenses; Article 5, 6, 7 and 8 stipulates provisions and procedures for initiating initial land acquisition process and estimating compensation rates; Article 8 and 9 stipulates procedures and provisions for notification to land acquisition; Article 11 stipulates provision of right to file complaints by the affected on the public notice with regard to the land right; Articles 13 to 17 stipulates procedures and provisions of Compensation Fixation Committee (CDC) including criteria for compensation fixation; Article 19 stipulates disclosure  of the compensation entitlement through public notification; Article 25 stipulates provision of Complaints against the compensation rates.
